EVENT POSTINGS AND EMAIL ANNOUNCEMENTS

We maintain a calendar of Focusing events and we send announcements to our mailing list.

How to post with us:
To have your event listed or your announcement forwarded to our mailing list, follow the instructions below. In both cases, you begin by sending an email to us. If what you are announcing meets our criteria we will forward it. If in addition it is an event, then it will also go on the calendar.

And in return...:
Please reciprocate by ensuring that your constituencies know about us and our events, by (for example) forwarding our email announcements to your list. We are confident that each community will benefit by learning about the other.

What we post on our calendar:
[NOTE: All events are online these days; this paragraph has been rendered out-of-date by Covid.]  We post Focusing events on our calendar that are local and in-person. In other words, they take place physically (face-to-face) in the New York Metro Area. Focusing activities that are independent of location because they are accessed by phone or videoconference are beyond the scope of our calendar.

We make an exception for major in-person events hosted by The International Focusing Institute even when they are not local, for instance the international conferences.

What announcements we send:
Events that appear on our calendar are also announced, once, by email, to our mailing list.

In addition, we occasionally circulate news of online courses taught by certified teachers living in our area who are regular, active NYMF participants.

Also occasionally, at our discretion, we forward announcements on other topics or events that pertain to our members and have a clear connection to Focusing.

We do not share our mailing list with any other organization or use it for any other purpose.

Instructions:
Because of the forwarding software, there are particular needs that your email must satisfy. The thing to understand is, if your announcement is approved, it will be released to our recipient list exactly as it is.  For instance, we cannot edit the subject heading or strip out a message you meant just for us.

1.  The subject line should indicate clearly who is sponsoring the event being announced, so the recipient realizes that it is not a NYMF meeting and understands what you are offering. The recipients will see exactly the subject heading you use, so think of it as an opportunity for an attractive headline. Do not use it to give a message to the list moderator.

2.  No attachments are possible because the mailing software will not accept them and the email will not go through. Therefore your message must be in the body of the email.

3.  The body of the email should contain everything you want it to say and nothing more. Do not write a message to the list moderator in it, because the added message will go to everyone! We cannot change what you send; it goes out as is.

4.  The very top of your email: Please leave one blank line at the top of your email and then include in your first line (above the body of your announcement) how you would like the recipient to reply.  Many times the recipient hits “reply” and the reply goes to the list software. The list moderator must then reject the post, and you as the initial sender will not get the reply that was intended for you. To forestall this occurrence, we ask everyone to make very clear, right at the top, how the recipient should respond.

4.   Send your email to nymfannouncement@lists.nymflists.com
