Entering a New Territory: A Focusing Exploration of Aging
A Focusing Conversation facilitated byJoan Lavender
The recent folio, Aging .Focusing Through the Transitions of Later Life, inspired us to plan a meeting with a different format. Led by Joan Lavender, one of the Folio’s authors, participants will have the opportunity to speak from their own felt sense of what this topic evokes in them. Joan will help to us to share from this deeper level and address, in a felt sensing way, the experience of growing older - as individuals and in relationship to others.
This particular evening will be something of a unique exploration, facilitated on a group level through a continuous Focusing process . . . slowing down, listening carefully, sensing into what others are contributing, and reflecting upon how their words and images touch into our own experience. It is our hope that this evening will help to build community and connection among us.
Reading the FOLIO is a not a pre-requisite for participating in the meeting. However, we invite you to sample its contents. Barbara Chutroo has some copies for sale for $20. You can contact her at bchutroo@earthlink.net. Alternatively you can purchase a copy through the Focusing Institute by going to their website www.focusing.org: scroll to 'What's New' and click on 'Aging - Focusing Through the Transitions of Later Life'. (You can also preview the complete edition as a pdf by scrolling to 'Felt Community' and clicking on Folio.)
Joan Lavender, Psy. D. is a clinical psychologist and relational psychoanalytic psychotherapist with over 30 years experience. She is a graduate of the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy and a Fellow of the Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy Research at the State University of New York. Her early training in movement and music provide a unique perspective that unifies all of her work.
Also, enjoy our FOCUSING COMMUNITY MARKETPLACE: In a lively exchange with others in our community, this is a time and place to share your Focusing projects, workshops, and trainings and to let us know what other goods and services you have to offer. Bring your flyers and brochures for our literature table.
PLEASE INVITE FRIENDS and COLLEAGUES: While NY Metro Focusing meetings are not introductions to Focusing, we hope newcomers get a little taste of the Focusing experience and are motivated to learn more by taking an Introduction to Focusing workshop.
Suggested Contribution: $20 to cover rental and refreshment expenses. Those new to Focusing are our guests for their first NYMF meeting. Cash only please, since we are not able to take credit cards or checks.
Date of the next NYMF meeting: Friday, December 2, 6:30 - 9:00 p.m. Program TBD
