9/12/08 Meeting Announcement NEW YORK METRO FOCUSING

Our Fuzzy Edges…
Joan Lavender and Larry Hurst
The New York Metro Focusing Community is a rare group – seasoned and emerging Focusers mingled together with interested newcomers. Focusing people value the process of listening in a way that builds strength as a community while appreciating the tenderness of a particular theme. Why not benefit this evening from our combined talents by spending Focusing time at our own “Fuzzy Edges”? As a suggested topic (and one that is timely as we return from the summer), Joan and Larry are particularly interested in the question of “vocation” in its broadest sense. Where do I want to be headed? And what might be in the way of my getting there? These important questions have fuzzy edges that matter a lot to each of us, yet rarely emerge in a group setting. So whether you are an artist, therapist, retired person, newcomer or whoever - we invite you to come “listen to yourself” at your own fuzzy edge while listening empathically to others too. We will take care to introduce newcomers to the beauty of the Focusing/listening process.
Joan is a clinical psychologist who learned Focusing over thirty years ago and has been integrating it into her psychotherapy practice ever since. She is a supervisor in20the Relational Focusing-Oriented Psychotherapy Program and has a private practice in New York City. “If I were on a therapeutic desert island and could only bring one skill it would always be Focusing.” You can learn more about Joan at www.joanlavender.com
Larry worked until the 1990s in the European life sciences sector as a healthcare professional, then retired in order to go “back to studying what I really wanted” and graduated as a personal development coach and Focusing trainer. He has a part-time coaching practice on the Upper West Side, is co-founder of the Focusing oriented bodywork and movement group, and loves to teach basic Focusing skills “to anyone who will stop and listen a moment”: mailto:larry.hurst@focus-in-touch.com
