Notes from June 9, 2017 Meeting
Focusing and Beauty in Our Troubled Times facilitated by Robin Kappy
Sixteen attendees participated in a very rich conversation on the topic of beauty. Robin began by telling us how she experienced beauty as a link between her work as a therapist and her work as an artist. In both these realms, she looks for what is beautiful, whether in people or in the environment. She next led us in an attunement that encouraged us to contemplate what is beautiful to us. An enlivening conversation followed in which people listened intently and responded with what had been touched in them. A common theme was that the appreciation of beauty needs time, stillness, patience, and practice and is enhanced by sharing with another person for whom the beauty also resonates, whether in art, nature, poetry, or music. It was noted that any human activity can be a source of beauty, including the death of a friend or loved one. The expression of these experiences created an atmosphere of connection among the attendees. Throughout the evening, Robin offered poems which expressed the essence of what was said.
