Let Your Body Interpret Your Dreams: Working with Dreams in Small Groups,
Focusing Partnerships, and Individual Psychotherapy
with Janet Pfunder
Gendlin's book Let Your Body Interpret Your Dreams shows us that the authority for "interpreting" rests with the dreamer's living, felt sensing, bodily responsiveness. Focusing supports the dreamer at a very deep level with her or his own expertise in allowing resonant meaning to unfold, using the rich metaphorical images and stories from dreams as a starting point.
This evening at MetroFocusing will include presentation, demonstration, and discussion. We will learn how the "zig-zag" between dream and felt sense allows the life energy implicit in the dream to become part of the dreamer's waking life, a rich resource for carrying forward. We will learn some specific, nuanced details about how to listen to dreams and facilitate the process and will hear about what Janet has learned in the past several years of working with people and their dreams.
Janet Pfunder is a Focusing Oriented Therapist, with thirty years of experience in private practice. She teaches Focusing and leads groups and workshops on Focusing with dreams. She also leads experiential Sufi workshops. She studied dream group process with Montague Ullman, Jungian alchemy with Nathan Schwartz-Salant, and she continues to study psychoanalysis with Michael Eigen. Her paper “Sufi Meditations on Psychotherapy” was published in the book Psychotherapy and Religion: Many Paths, One Journey (2005). Her paper “Colors of the Invisible: Sufi Healing” was published in the book WomanSoul (2008). She is a teacher and supervisor for the FORP (Focusing Oriented Relational Psychotherapy) Programs, created by Lynn Preston, in both New York and Cape Town, South Africa. Also a painter, her most recent one woman show was at Harvard as an alumna. Some of her paintings can be seen at janetpfunderpaintings.com.
