6/12/09 Meeting Notes

Greetings to Fellow Focusers in the Metro Focusing Community, The NY Metro Focusing meeting on Friday evening, June 12, was a pivotal, amazing meeting in our development as an organization.  Under the steady, guiding hand of SUSAN RUDNICK, wetook a major step toward ensuring that NY Metro Focusing will endure over time.

From the very beginning vision of this  organization in the summer of 2007, it was known that for such an  organization to exist beyond its founding organizers, functional roles would need to be defined and a mechanism established by which responsibilities for these roles are passed forward.  The knowing was present in the original vision, and the knowing re-emerged from NYMF’s own group process, both over time and in the meeting on 6/12.

After CYNTHIA CALLSEN thanked each of those involved over the past two years in developing NY Metro Focusing, JOAN LAVENDER led the group in an initial attunement.  From that beginning moment, our small group was IN PROCESS, initially triggered by pleasantly ringing cell phones, which we needed to incorporate into our focusing experience.  Each person present had much to share of their experiences of participating in NYMF

(8 meetings now, since 2/29/08).  Susan was right there processing the process, guiding and contributing, saying what needed to be said in all different ways. Tensions and lessons learned were acknowledged along with possibilities for paths of freshness. And we did the hard work:  after looking at a detailed compilation of all the functions (prepared by Joan Lavender and Cynthia Callsen) that are necessary for the organization to exist and meetings to happen, each person present examined what they could contribute.  The abundance was amazing.  Those present stepped forward to contribute their talents and the time they could afford for our next year.  Most notably JOAN LAVENDER has agreed to take on the responsibility of lead organizer, perhaps known as Planning Group and General Oversight Coordinator.  And we have a working Planning Group which is capable of taking on many of the myriad tasks associated with planning a meeting and running NYMF.

Those currently involved are:
Joan Lavender, and
(in alphabetical order)
Cynthia Callsen
Barbara Chutroo
Griff Feeney
Naomi Glicken

Larry Hurst
Elizabeth Lehmann
Anne Shollar
Katya Salkinder

However, we still need more help from you.  Are you willing to devote a few hours of work
during the year shared with others?  More details of what is needed will be sent out by Joan and the new Planning Group in the next two or three weeks, but in the meantime, take some time to reflect on what it means to you to have a group such as NY Metro Focusing and what you might be willing and able to contribute during this coming year, or perhaps in the future.  We invite you to take a step to become just a bit more involved, to know the positive, life-giving energy that is generated when you work in collaboration with your fellow Focusers to help this group maintain itself.  Tasks shared among many strengthen our ties to one another and thereby our NY Metro Focusing organization. Various areas of responsibility include Communications including email communications and announcements, meeting note-taking, marketplace recording, Presentations coordination,Sign-in Table responsibilities, Meeting Space coordination, Finances, Food and Beverage, Outreach, and New Projects which currently includes website development and supporting individual new projects.
The success of this June 12th meeting is that we have now established a  process for transition, and in that process we have ensured NY Metro Focusing’s continuance into the future. PLEASE LOOK FOR THE NEXT POSTING ABOUT HOW YOU CAN BECOME INVOLVED.

SAVE THE DATES:  The next NY Metro meetings are scheduled for September 25th and December 4th.
