EMBRACING THE WHOLE,  WELCOMING THE NEW!
RECENT MEETING NOTES

June 10, 2016

Unlocking the Unspoken

Marcella Calabi led fifteen attendees in an exploration of sound as an avenue for expressing and carrying forward felt senses.  We used an array of sound making objects – some were recognizable as musical instruments, some were children’s toys, some were household objects usually used for other purposes.  After an introduction that prepared us to think about sound making in new and out-of-the box ways, Marcella led an attunement, helping us to be in a focusing mental space.  We were then invited, while remaining connected with what had come, to explore whether one or more of the sound making objects might express our felt sense.  People wandered about, trying out sounds until something resonated for them.  After we returned to our seats, we went around the room with each person making a sound and, if they wished, saying a word.  This was followed by a stimulating conversation about what we had experienced.  Some people experienced shifts and healing, others had not been able to find just the right sound, or had heard it briefly, then lost it, then, with Marcella’s help, found it again.  The conversation was followed by more sound making, initially a duet, but then more people joined in, creating a sound collage, music unlike anything familiar, but not unharmonious.  A video and photos can be found on our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/NYMetroFocusing/
