As It Presents In Your Daily Life And In The Big Moments:
It Can Be A Profound Experience

With Anna Christensen and Jan Bronson

The Core Belief as we define it in this workshop is a belief founded on a personal conviction of an intrinsic deficit in the very core of our being, a felt sense of inadequacy or painful inferiority.  Both the Buddhist and Focusing views share the understanding that Core Beliefs belie a basic truth - that we are whole and complete as we are.  When we can uncover our Core Belief and its particular coping strategies through Focusing, we can directly touch our innate compassion and wisdom.  We open to interconnectedness with all beings and our authentic abilities can manifest more freely.

Anna Christensen, LCSW, is a psychotherapist in private practice.  She is a certified Focusing-Oriented Psychotherapist and an EMDR practitioner.  Anna is a long time student of Zen Buddhism.  Since receiving Dharma transmission in 1997 she has been a dharma teacher and founder of the "Ordinary Mind Sangha", offering meditation groups and retreats.  Anna is co-author with FOT Susan Rudnick of "A Glimpse of Zen Practice Within the Realm of Countertransference" and co-author with Jan Bronson of "Changing the Unchangeable and the Core Belief", presented at the Focusing International in Costa Rica, 2004, available of the Focusing website.  Anna's passion is crossing Focusing and Zen.

Jan Bronson, MS, NRCPsyA, has been practicing psychotherapy in NYC for 33 years.  She became a Focusing trainer in 1996, certified by Mary Hendricks.  Since then their training group has continued to meet independently to Focus, share ideas and experiences and develop Focusing applications.  Anna is also in this group and together they have developed their concepts of the Core Belief through their Focusing partnership.  Jan applies a model of "Consensus Building" with Focusing in her work with couples, individuals and small international groups involved in project planning or conflict resolution.  Focusing is a constant part of being for her in daily life.

New York Metro Focusing Mission Statement
Adopted on 8/15/08

The mission of New York Metro Focusing is to embody and carry forward the practice of Focusing and the philosophy that supports it as developed in the work of Eugene Gendlin and others.   By holding regularly scheduled meetings, NY Metro Focusing will offer members of this local geographic community ongoing opportunities to connect, share and grow in their appreciation and practice of Focusing.  The group will welcome newcomers by offering them an opportunity to learn about the life-enhancing practice of Focusing.  In this way, NY Metro Focusing will help to engender a thriving and visible presence for the practice of Focusing in the New York Metropolitan area.
