MEETING PROGRAM

4:30 pm           Registration and networking with light refreshments
5:00 pm           Welcome and Introduction:  Larry Hurst
5:05 pm           Reconnecting from the Inside Out

“Your physically felt body is in fact part of a gigantic system of here and other places, now and other times, you and other people - in fact, the whole universe.  This sense of being bodily alive in a vast system is the body as it is felt from the inside.”   (From Focusing, by Eugene Gendlin.)

“I have come to realize that the wisdom that supports any particular part or relationship comes from a much larger whole than I can imagine.  The self in grounded presence, supported by my center of gravity, is a much larger self than I thought.”  (From a recent article by Kevin McEvenue.)

Grounded Presence is the foundation of Wholebody Focusing (developed by Kevin McEvenue).  Through participating in the exercises in Grounded Presence which we are offering on Sunday, April 21, you will have an opportunity to directly experience this “larger self” that Kevin McEvenue speaks of in the quote above.  This larger self can be drawn upon as a profound resource in the context of any relationship —whether it be a focusing, therapy, work, or personal relationship.

NY Metro Focusing meetings offer an opportunity to engage in a felt sensing, interactive exploration of topics of interest – slowing down, listening from a Focusing place, and letting what we hear resonate within to bring something new and fresh, both within ourselves and within the group.

This evening’s facilitators:

Jocelyn Jacks Kahn has practiced and taught various forms of energy healing for over 20 years, including Quantum-Touch®.  She completed Ann Weiser Cornell’s Focusing certification program in December 2010.  She has taught numerous Inner Relationship Focusing classes, Levels 1 through 4, at Zen Garland Sanctuary and has led hundreds of guided sessions.  She is currently nearing the end of a 2-year training program in Wholebody Focusing with Kevin McEvenue and Karen Whalen.

Susan Deisroth has been a psychotherapist for many years and is currently studying Focusing Oriented Relational Psychotherapy with Lynn Preston.  She received her focusing certification from Robert Lee and is participating in the Wholebody Focusing Training along with Jocelyn and Stefanie.

Stefanie Proessl studied the Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais Method, and Western and Eastern bodywork.  She has been working with groups and individuals since the early 90s.

Looking for an ever more holistic approach, she certified as a Focusing Guide with Charlotte Howorth in 2011, joined the 2011-2013 Wholebody Focusing Program, and, in January 2013, enrolled in the Focusing and Complex Trauma Training.

New York Metro Focusing Mission Statement

The mission of New York Metro Focusing is to embody and carry forward the practice of Focusing and the philosophy that supports it as developed in the work of Eugene Gendlin and others.  By holding regularly scheduled meetings, NY Metro Focusing will offer members of this local geographic community ongoing opportunities to connect, share and grow in their appreciation and practice of Focusing.  The group will welcome newcomers by offering them an opportunity to learn about the life-enhancing practice of Focusing.  In this way, NY Metro Focusing will help to engender a thriving and visible presence for the practice of Focusing in the New York Metropolitan area.
