6:05 pm New Words, New Concepts: Thinking at the Edge
with Rob Parker, Ph.D.
Have you ever needed a better theory? Perhaps there is some issue that comes up repeatedly in your work, you can feel there is something wrong, but you can't quite put what you know into words. You need more than a felt shift, you need a whole new theory! A theory that expresses what you know, so you can think about it for yourself or perhaps teach it to others. Thinking at the Edge (TAE) is your answer. When you know enough about something to have a felt sense for it, and you don't have words or concepts that express what you know, then you need new words and new concepts. You need Thinking at the Edge.
Thinking at the edge is normally taught in a weekend workshop; in this evening’s discussion, we will explore what Thinking at the Edge is, how and why it works, and do some experiential exercises to get a sense of what it feels like.
Rob Parker, Ph.D., is a focusing trainer and a longtime student of Gendlin's Philosophy of the Implicit. An expert in the field of psychological trauma and abuse, he has been interviewed twice on MSNBC, published in professional journals, and developed and administered a number of treatment programs. He has found TAE not only helpful but indispensable in his professional activities.
